Deep low notes are reproduced without the artificial bass boost, while mid and high notes remain clear and distinct. Additional Bose acoustic equalization techniques fine-tune the frequency response for better audio performance. Proprietary ergonomic earcup cushions promise to ensure better quality sound and a comfortable fit for extended periods of time. The soft cushioned earcups swivel for a better fit and gently surround the ears, while an adjustable headband allows for up to three inches of adjustment in length. These headphones are fully compatible with portable players, laptops, and home stereos, and come complete with a 5' extension cord, a 1/4" stereo plug adapter, and a drawstring carry bag for storage and transportation of the headphones and accessories. drl1989: My #bose_around_ear_headphones bit the dust.... recommendations for new ones? Pay the ~90 bucks to have Bose replace them? Can anyone suggest anything comparable for $150 or under? Nov 1, 10

drl1989: Hey Yale, thanks for the heads up. I spent the last couple of days scouting around and listening to various pairs. Believe it or not I actually settled on the #Grado_SR80 myself, sounds great! I figure it's a good intro to the at-home, high quality headphone setup. I'll give them some time and upgrade later if necessary. The Grados fit nicely into my budget, sounded way better than Shure and Sennheiser in the same range, for music at least (mainly what I wanted). Nov 7, 10

Yale: Great to hear it, hope you enjoy them. Like all my headphones I've gone through points in time when I hated the SR80, but now I'm firmly settled on love. Listening through a dedicated amp / cleanly powered Squeezebox Classic or my iBasso D2 Viper it rivals my much more expensive system where it counts: the pure fun of listening to music - it really gets me going. You can often go to Head-Fi meets to try more expensive options if you ever wanted to - my suggestion would be to find a source / amp that works for them first. Might be way easier said than done though, it took me a while (and some luck). Either way, enjoy the journey if you decide one is in order :) Nov 7, 10
