Sony MDR-XD100
$20.00
Released October, 2001
The Pros:Shorter cord length (1 meter) makes these great over-the-ear travel 'phones. Lightweight and comfortable over longer periods of use. Surprisingly good mids and highs.
The Cons:Bass end is notably weak outside of bass-heavy genres (electronic, hip hop). Build quality feels cheap and plasticky.
The Sony MDR-XD100 is a pair of over-the-head headphones released as an inexpensive alternative to the high-priced MDR-XB300, MDR-XB500, and MDR-XB700 models. Despite its very low price, the unit houses relatively large 40mm drivers that allow it to access 1500mw of power across a somewhat wide 12-22,000Hz frequency range.
